Sea
The beach at Santa Maria lies at the foot of Ricadi and stretches for about 1 km along the coast, featuring fine, white sand. In the centre of the bay is a charming fishing village with several restaurants right on the water. Be sure to visit the little Church of Santa Maria while you’re there.
From Santa Maria, you can take a shuttle (by sea) to the famous “Praia i Focu” coves or enjoy a guided snorkeling tour along the coast to Tropea.
One of the most beautiful beaches on the Costa degli Dei is undoubtedly Grotticelle. Located at the foot of Capo Vaticano, this beach is also known for its powdery, white sand.
An endless stretch of soft, light sand on the right side of Capo Vaticano, Tono Beach is lapped by stunning turquoise waters with a clear, crystalline quality. Here, the seabed drops quickly, a result of the currents, creating ideal conditions for experienced swimmers.
Mountains
The village of Zungri is home to the Rupestrian Settlement of the Sbariati, an ancient village dating back to the Byzantine era. Made up of around 50 caves carved into sandstone rock, this settlement spans multiple levels and is connected by a stone stairway. Water collection basins, also carved into the rock, are spread throughout the village. Here, you’ll find the Museum of Rock and Rural Civilization, with roughly 1,000 artefacts illustrating the agricultural and pastoral life of the past. This site is a valuable historical and cultural heritage, preserved for future generations.
Serra San Bruno, an ancient village in the province of Vibo Valentia, lies in a wide valley surrounded by beautiful forests. Visitors can explore scenic trails as well as historic centres, art collections, and museums. Discover the area’s unique rituals, traditions, and delicious cuisine, rooted in its pastoral and rural heritage. Traditional crafts, like charcoal-making, add to the village’s authentic charm.
In the nearby town of Sorianello, you’ll find an original park called the Valley of the Windmills. This area in the province of Vibo Valentia, between Monte Poro and the Serre Vibonese, is known for its strong agricultural heritage and expertise in grain processing, reflecting the enduring connection to the land.
